A property in a Marylebone mansion block used by The Rolling Stones is now up for sale.
Charlie Watts, the lead drummer, used to live in Ivor Court with his wife Shelley in the 1960s, and the Marylebone block of 164 flats was also the home to the band's first manager Andrew Oldham, who used his apartment as an office.
The whole band had previously resided in a small flat in Edith Grove, Chelsea where legend has it they ate cold baked beans out of the tin before being propelled to stardom. Mick Jagger joked the band were so poor at this time that Keith Richards used to shoplift chocolate from their local off licence when they fancied a treat.
After Watts moved into Ivor Court, Mick Jagger, Keith Richards, Bill Wyman and Brian Jones became frequent visitors. An iconic photo of the five of them standing outside the entrance in 1964 is often recreated by fans.
Now, a recently refurbished flat in the 1930s mansion block has hit the market. The two bedroom apartment, just moments from Regents Park and the trendy boutiques and restaurants of Marylebone High Street, overlooks a quiet mews and benefits from glass passenger lifts and a 24-hour porter and concierge service.
Inside, there are a number of period features, including panelled walls and an original fireplace in the living room, as well as sash windows throughout the property. A recent renovation has given the apartment a contemporary feel with new herringbone wood floors, a neutral colour palette and a grey tiled kitchen with integrated appliances.
Director of Dexters Marylebone James Staite says: “This contemporary apartment in Zone 1 would be ideal for a couple or young professional. Baker Street and Marylebone Station are both within walking distance, and the Elizabeth line via Bond Street will soon offer a direct connection to Heathrow airport.”
