Holding Court

An exceptional penthouse in Chelsea Harbour

Chelsea has long been considered one of London’s most exclusive neighbourhoods. In the 1960s, King’s Road was the famous haunt of the Beatles, Pink Floyd and Mary Quant. But, when the stars of the ‘Swinging Sixties’ were ready for retirement, Chelsea Harbour became one of London’s most desirable postcodes.

Situated between central Chelsea and the Sands End area, the harbour was entirely redeveloped by architects Moxley Jenner & Partners during the 1980s. For decades, it was the single largest construction project in the UK and to this day, it remains a hub for sports and entertainment stars, international tenants and wealthy retirees.

The last ten years have seen the wider Chelsea riverside developed, including expanses of parkland, waterways and landscaped areas. Former London Mayor Boris Johnson once called the Chelsea Waterfront Scheme the ‘largest development opportunity on the north bank of the Thames,’ and this has been reflected in the exponential growth of house prices along this part of the river.

Today, a spectacular four bedroom penthouse in Carlyle Court, an exclusive development in Chelsea Harbour, has just hit the market.  Set over two floors, the property has recently been renovated to an extremely high standard and has a mechanical glass roof in the dining room that opens up to enjoy al fresco dining and entertainment.

On entering the property, you are welcomed by an elegant hallway that leads to four double bedrooms, two with an en suite. The principal bedroom suite is also on this floor and features surround sound, a spacious dressing room and an en suite bathroom with twin sinks, a bathtub and a shower.

The upstairs level is equally stylish with an open plan design and a 37 ft reception room with wall-to-ceiling arched windows that flood the space with natural light. A bespoke bar with monochrome chequered floors and mirrored cabinets was designed by C Bros Joinery, whilst the kitchen, devised by Clive Christian, is made of solid wood and has a breakfast bar with a marble countertop.

Hugh Daunt, Manager of Dexters Chelsea says, ‘This apartment has been meticulously designed and would work well as a family home or London base. It has good transport links and is in close proximity to Imperial Wharf railway station and riverboats to the city.’
